History

Childhood & Early Life

Josie was born in Vancouver Canada on Earth to parents Denise and Jacob Harris both of whom are High School teachers. Her mother was a music teacher and she introduced Josie to music when she was a baby. Josie took to music like a fish to water and it quickly became the main focus of childhood and it has remained with her to this day. In contrast to both her parents who were both very outgoing Josie was quiet and reserved with music being the one outlet that she would use to express herself. She didn’t have many friends growing up, but the ones that she did have she was very close to and she still remains in contact with all of them to this day. Her musical talents continued to bloom in her teenage years and it was wildly assumed by her family and friends that Josie would make a career for herself as a musician. This was not to be however as Josie had set her eyes on a bigger aspiration and that was to join in Starfleet.

Starfleet Academy

Josie entered the Academy in 2376 and took a wide variety of courses, she focused mostly on communications systems and in particular language studies which she had first started studying back in high school. Josie excelled in all of her courses and in her final year expanded her studies to incorporate some Operations based training. Josie graduated from the Academy in 2379 in the top 50 of her class and was promoted to the rank of Ensign.

Starfleet Career

Fresh from the Academy Ensign Josie Harris was assigned to the Nova Class USS Fairchild where she took up a position in the Fairchild’s Operations Department. With the Fairchild being a small ship the vessel’s communications were handled solely by the ship’s Operations Staff, this provided Josie with an opportunity to gain some necessary experience in ship operations, while continuing to develop her communications skill set. In March 2381 with her first tour on the Fairchild soon coming to an end, Josie made the decision to full concentrate her efforts on becoming a dedicated communications officer and started to actively seek an assignment that would allow her to do so. In June of that year Josie found that assignment in the form of the USS Pacifica a Sovereign Class Starship. With the support of her department chief from the Fairchild Josie put in her request for a transfer to the Pacifica and it’s Communications Department. Her transfer was processed and approved quickly and Josie found herself on her new ship before the end of the month along with a promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade.

Josie instantly found herself in her element on the Pacifica and was straight away up to her neck in work. The Pacifica at the time was serving as the Flagship of Starfleet’s Rikan Task Group and the ship’s Communications Department was responsible for coordinating the efforts of the entire task group. Josie worked exceptionally hard during her first month on the Pacifica and was quickly recognised for her efforts by being assigned to the man the communications station on the bridge during the Beta Shift. Over the next two years Josie continued to work hard and was able to establish herself as a senior member in her department. In March 2383 based on the recommendations from the Pacifica’s Chief Operations Officer Lieutenant Hart and from her own outgoing department head Lieutenant Carmichael, Josie was named as the Pacifica’s new Chief Communications Officer. She has been serving in that position ever since and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in June 2385.
