Master Sergeant is a military rank the equivalent of which is used by the service organizations of many civilizations.
Use in the Starfleet Marine Corps
Master Sergeant is the eighth enlisted rank in the Marine Corps, just above Gunnery Sergeant and below Sergeant Major. Master Sergeants are responsible for the morale, welfare, and conduct of all the enlisted members in a company and is the chief advisor to the company commander concerning the enlisted force. Most units have a Master Sergeant in this position, while larger units use Sergeant Majors.
