The USS Iowa NCC-76462 is a Galaxy Class Starship that was originally assigned to Bravo Fleet's Task Force 72. In it's still short Starfleet career the Iowa has seen countless action as it played an important role during the recent Dominion War and against the Omericon Pirates. The Ship has been under the command of a number of different officers including Captain Edward Launceston & Captain Norvin Karris. The USS Iowa was badly damaged in 2379 and required extensive repairs that resulted in most of the ship's crew being reassigned to other posts around the fleet. The USS Iowa finally returned to active service in mid 2380 after being tied up in spacedock for well over 6 months.
The USS Pacifica's history with the USS Iowa
The Pacifica and it's crew have a lot of history with the USS Iowa that goes back to before the USS Pacifica was commissioned. This is due to the fact that some members of the Pacifica's crew served on the Iowa for some time including Commodore Daniel Butterworth & Doctor Connie Butterworth formly Morgan. Both officers served on the Iowa for just over a year that was mostly spent under the command of Captain Edward Launceston as First Officer and Chief Medical Officer respectively. In late May 2377 Butterworth was named as the Commanding Officer of the new Sovereign Class USS Pacifica, with Morgan also being assigned to the Pacifica as it's Chief Medical Officer. Both officer's transfer to the Pacifica was put temporarly on hold after Captain Launceston's sudden departure from the Iowa, which meant that Butterworth had to stay on and oversee the transfer of command to Captain Norvin Kallis.
Both Butterworth and Morgan were reunited with their old comrades on the Iowa in 2378, when the Pacifica teamed up with the Iowa to search for a missing Federation Starship. The missing ship was the USS Noble a Starfleet science vessel that was investigation a new subspace rift near the Cardassian Border. The subspace rift turned out to be temporal portal that had transferred the Noble back in time, the same thing would happen to both the Pacifica and the Iowa leaving both ships badly damaged. After making repairs both vessels were succesfully able to located the Noble and were able to return to their own time period by making another trip through the rift. The Iowa was severley damaged on the return trip and had to be towed back to Deep Space 12 by a Federation tug.
Once the Iowa was back at the station, it was learned that it would be some time before the ship would be space worthy again. So the decision was made to reassign the majority of the ship ship's crew whilst the repairs were carried out. One of the crew members who was reassigned was the Iowa's Chief Engineer Lieutenant Marcus Cesarian who was transferred to the USS Pacifica where he took up the position of Assistant Chief Engineer. Cesarian's transfer to the Pacifica makes him the forth officer who has served on both the Iowa and the USS Pacifica.
