Commodore is a naval rank, the equivalent of which is used by the service organizations of many civilizations.
Use in Starfleet
In Starfleet the rank of Commodore is the most junior flag officer, under Rear Admiral but senior to a Captain and is the equivalent to the rank of Brigadier General in the Star Fleet Marine Core.Commodores command groups of ships, as opposed to Captains who usually command single ships or units.
