The SS Augustus was a Federation Freighter that operated along the Romulan Neutral Zone where it hauled large dilithium shipments between Starbase 257 and Starbase 99. The Freighter was destroyed in December 2380 with the loss of all hands by the Rikan Pirates, making it one of the first positively identifed victims of the pirate group.
Final Mission & Loss
The Augustus departed from Starbase 99 on the 12th of December on 2380 bound for Starbase 257 with it's latest shipment of dilithium. Midway through it's voyage the Augustus received a distress call from an unidentified ship that was sitting very close to the Neutral Zone. Being the closest ship in range and due to the nature of the distress call the Augustus' Captain choose to respond to the call for aid and set a course for the ship's last known position. The Augustus arrived on the scene to find no ship in distress as they had instead walked straight into a Rikan ambush. Ill equipped to defend it self from such an attack the Augustus was brutually overwhelmed and boarded by the pirates. The crew tried valiantly to defend themselves and their precious cargo, but all hands were killed by the Rikans.
So quickly had the attack went down that the Augustus's crew didn't even have time to launch a distress call. A distress call was eventually issued from the Augustus but it by the pirates who were now firmly in control of the Freighter. This distress call was used to lure the USS Pacifica to the scene, which the pirates hoped to destroy by blowing up the Augustus' warp core. The Augustus was destroyed in the following blast, but the USS Pacifica successfully managed to avoid a similiar fate by warping to safety.
