Matthew grew up in a small coastal town called Bicheno on the East Coast of Tasmania. He lived there for 9 years before moving down to Hobart with his parents who were after a new way of life. He lived in Hobart for two years before again moving to another small town Richmond where he spent the rest of youth.

Starfleet Academy

Matthew entered the Academy when he was 16 years old and took courses in both Engineering and Science quickly excelling to the top of his class. Also during his time at the academy he played a lot of sports. In his final year he did a small tour of duty on the academy training ship.

Starfleet Career

Fresh out of the academy Matthew was assigned to the USS Trenchard as a junior engineer where he served for a year under the captaincy of Captain Amos Trask. Before being named as the Assistant Chief Engineer on the USS Raptor with a promotion to Lieutenant Junior Grade. Where he served until he was offered the position of Chief Engineer on the USS Iowa under the command of Captain Launceston, he served on the Iowa for a year and earned a promotion to the rank of full Lieutenant Before transferring to the Beta Antilles Shipyard where he spent two months working with Starfleet's design team, before accepting the position of Chief Engineer on the USS Pacifica with a promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He served on the Pacifica for 6 months before being accepted into the Vulcan Science Academy for a 6 month course.

It was during his time at the academy he met up with a fellow officer by the name of Jezreel Kays, where they quickly became "close" friends. After his six month course at the academy he put in for a transfer back to the USS Pacifica this time wishing to serve as the Chief Science Officer as it has became "one" of his new loves. Horne served well during his time on the Pacifica but left the ship again when he got the opportunity to work with the Star Fleet R&D team for a year. Upon the completion of his term with R&D Horne once again transferred back to the Pacifica because he missed the exciting lifestyle that came with being on the Pacifica.
